Question: Will you add the Village Board email addresses to the site?
Answer: Unfortunately the Village Board members do not have business email
accounts. Therefore, you must contact them by phone, stop in the office, use
snail mail, or attend a Village meeting if you wish to communicate something to
them.
Question: What happened to the Guest Book?
Answer: The Guest Book was underutilized and not terribly user friendly. We will
continue to look at other products for their communication ease.
Move the Bridge
Regarding Route 67 corridor road project: Stillwater continues to be the
backside of growing projects – both Global Foundaries (AMD) and the Route 67
Rail yard. The Town of Stillwater is getting very little in exchange for an
increase in traffic, pollution and noise to our residents’ quality of life, in addition
to greater wear and tear on our roads (Cold Springs Road). What leadership
has the last two and the current supervisors demonstrated to prevent negative
impact on our community? The Global Foundaries project is providing Stillwater
with approximately $1 million over a 4-year period. Malta is getting $5 million.
Although a large portion of the project is located in Stillwater, the buildings
currently designed for the project are in Malta, likely leaving Stillwater with no
addition to the tax base (25% of zero is still zero).
Some AFROGISWHY.com members are seasoned participants in attending local
government meetings. It is interesting to hear them discuss how at election
time, some people running for office start “fluff” campaigning. Work that
catches the voters’ eyes begins so they might see what they get for their tax
dollars. That’s why you might see increased activity and information just before
election regarding parks, the Community Center, your road gets paved or
something that you’ve had an issue with for a long time that has been ignored
gets addressed. If these things are done too far in advance of Election Day,
people might forget.
Months ago, Councilman Baker said they ordered a $7,000 pavilion kit from
Curtis lumber (with a roof warranty of 20 years). The town Highway
Department was to erect this pavilion in Saratoga Glen Hollow or the Paul F.
Lilac Park (we’re not sure what name it currently has and therefore, we provide
both). At the 9/3 meeting, Highway Superintendent Mark Minick said he was
getting quotes on materials for the pavilion. Although duly noted that now this
land is getting fill reportedly from the Cold Springs Road project, the cart was
placed before the horse. Why?
Last year, Councilman Petronis said the Highway Department was going to
make a road on the property that the Town owns in Bemis Heights on Route 4
(that’s flooded approximately 4-6 months out of the year) and that they were
going to put in a few picnic tables there. Residents asked at that time, WHY
would a road be put in and picnic tables be set on undeveloped land? Mr.
Petronis said so people could start using it.
Keep in mind that Councilman Petronis has been the Highway Chairperson for
many, many years. Ask any AFROGISWHY.com member or other meeting
attendees about getting answers to questions. Countless times Town and
Village residents asked about highway issues only to be dismissed by Mark
Minick or Ken Petronis with, “You just don’t understand.”
Months ago, Supervisor Connelly told some AFROGISWHY.com members that he
wanted to run for re-election and didn’t know why the Republicans might not
support him. He stated, “I haven’t done anything wrong.” What is his list of
accomplishments? Frankly, he hasn’t done anything at all.
Imagine being the Route 67 residents whose quality of life soon may be
negatively impacted. The only way our neighbors could get the supervisor’s
attention was to come to a town board meeting.
In June 2009, NASA sent a rocket to the moon in search of water. It arrived October
10, 2009. Whether you agree with this process or not, non-conventional means are
being utilized proactively to look for alternative water sources. For at least the last
10 years, the town and village of Stillwater continue to work at bringing clean water
to the residents, but one thing is for sure. It wasn’t found on the moon.
And so NASA shoots a rocket at the moon for a water source, while local politicos
shoot the moon at us. Where is Kristen Gillebrand and Scott Murphy? Hear ye, hear
ye…we need you to vote for us. Did they not hear our plea? Or did our leaders fail to
seek assistance? Expenses mount for Stillwater residents, while many surrounding
communities receive relief. Why?
